We have reached that stage in the competition where the fight for the American Idol crown is between only two people – Phillip Phillips and Jessica Sanchez. This will be their final chance to impress the judges and America. One will walk away as the winner and for the other it would be so near yet so far! So who will be the winner? Well Phillip Phillips was never in the bottom two but Jessica Sanchez has been there in the sixth week when she was saved by the judges. Does this indicate who might win? Probably not.
Tonight is the biggest night of the season and probably the biggest night of their lives for Jessica Sanchez and Phillip Phillips. 7000 screaming fans are in the audience rooting for their respective idol contestant.
First to go on stage was Jessica. She started with Whitney Houston’s, “I Got Nothing.” While for the first round Phillip Phillips sang Ben E. King’s, “Stand by Me.” The judges were split in their opinion as seen by their comments. Jennifer thought that it is a battle of the opposites and America has a tough job choosing one over the other. Randy was very clear in his mind that round one belonged to Jessica. Steven didn’t get a chance to say anything.
In the second round Jessica performed, “The Prayer” by Celine Dion while Phillip Phillips sang,“ Movin’ Out” by Billy Joel. This time Steven did get a chance to speak and he commented that Jessica Sanchez took the second round too. Randy was neutral and for him both the contestants were even in that round. Jennifer felt that Phillip Phillips was better in the second round.
For round three, the final round of the show and the competition both contestants had one last chance to impress the judges and America. They had to sing one of their own singles. Jessica performed “Change Nothing.” Randy did not sound particularly impressed with Jessica Sanchez although he did say that she has a Beyonce swag but the song was just OK for him. Jennifer was surprised that Jessica’s first single was pop but she predicted that Jessica will go on to make many records. Steven was more forthright in his comments and said that how good a singer Jessica is but the song was not proper for her.
For the final performance of the season Phillip Phillips performed “Home.” Randy was the most generous amongst the three when he said that he loved the song, he loved Phillip, the song was perfect and Phillip Phillips is a true genius. Jennifer paid her compliments when she said that the song was so typical of Phillip and his style is so unique that nothing on the radio sounds like it. Steven simply said that Phillip’s rendition was perfect and that Phillip Phillips was the man.
With the conclusion of the third round the performances for this season finally came to an end. It has been an exciting journey for the viewers as well as the contestants and in less than 24 hours the new American Idol winner would be unveiled.
