American Idol Season 10 Episode 28 : 21st April 2011 (Top 7 – Songs from 21st Century)

American Idol Season 10 Episode 28 : Last Week, Paul McDonald got eliminated after giving a whispery performance and punishing the audience with terrible boredom. Guess what, the audience here is literally different than Grand Magnolia’s audience so yes, singing in a Karaoke Talent show is not a thing for Paul at all. Tonight, the remaining Top 7 contestants will be singing songs coming from the 21st Century. No idea how this episode will go since we all knew that this season is already a train wreck itself, but what about tonight? It depends on how you look at it and we’re in the Top 7 already. It’s high time that these contestants should know who they are and brand themselves. Maybe that’s what these guys will be doing tonight…

AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 10 : TOP 7 SETLIST
[songs from the 21st century]

1. Scotty McCreery, Swingin’
2. James Durbin, Uprising
3. Haley Reinhart, Rolling in the Deep
4. Jacob Lusk, Dance With My Father
5. Casey Abrams, Harder to Breathe
6. Stefano Langone, Closer
7. Lauren Alaina, Born to Fly

Starting the show with a bunch of eliminated contestants and yeah, most of them were girls. Do you still remember how all these female contestants keep dropping like flies week after week? Well, they’re all in here tonight and the addition of the annoying Paul McDonald wearing his traditional annoying suit with that annoying embroidered rose. Boy, this guy even annoyingly croaks while singing…

Coming out first is Scotty McCreery and he’s singing a LeAnn Rimes song called “Swingin”. Mentor Jimmy Iovine suggested that he (scotty) should be out there performing with a guitar but for some reason Scotty uses his own insights and suggests swinging. It’s really nice that most Season 10 contestants are not following the mentor but do their own stubborn thing instead. In the case of Scotty McCreery, Randy Jackson said it’s too safe and boring. The rest of the judges were like praising his mediocre performance to be the greatest that they’ve ever seen!

Next up is James Durbin. Coming up on stage with an appearance that looks like a homeless biker. Guess that most Heavy Metal drunkards loitering on the streets all look like this, blah! Durbin is simply consistent. I don’t have anything bad to say on this performance (vocal wise) except for the fact that he’s trying too hard shoving that ‘badass’ Heavy Metal look on the audience. That just makes you a complete poser! First off, that emo hair is just stupid to look at! No Metal vocalist could come up on stage with a hair like that! But yeah, the falsettos are nice, so…

Haley Reinhart is singing “Rolling in the Deep” by Adele. I’m not familiar with the song so I am expecting it’ll be done the Haley way. After all, Haley might be going home tomorrow night anyway so it’s useless praising her performance. The judges were very critical to her too. I think that the judges were starting to give critics from now on, but that is a one good Haley performance up there tonight.

Wait Jacob Lusk is still in the show and is singing another ballad. I’ve no idea why this guy is still up there performing and tonight he sings with a complete shattering emotion. And by emotion I also mean his vibrato intact. With that kind of voice and that kind of facial expression, it’ll looks like that he’s going to cry and I was like: ‘wow! that just makes me sick’! Gets the remote and lowers the volume, next…

…is another train wreck! Of course, it’s Casey Abrams! You know if there’s one memorable performance in this season for me then that’s going to be Casey Abrams rendition of ‘Smells Like Teen Spirit’. Tonight, he’s singing a Maroon 5 song and he starts shouting again. Yeah, this guy likes to shout and kiss girls! Tonight he kissed Jennifer Lopez in a snap and is seen by millions! Maybe Sneaky Casey just wants to redeem himself after shoving his face on Seacrest’s crouch after getting saved several episodes ago. The singsing is sub-par, if not bad, but since you’ve just stole a kiss and just kissed the world’s most beautiful woman – you are safe from the critic! The judges swayed their attention to the stolen kiss instead smashing Casey with another terrible vocals tonight!

Pretty boy Stefano Langone took the stage and tried rocking it by singing “Closer” by Ne-Yo. The song itself is too groovy for a crooning guy like Stefano that closes eyes while singing and stands there like a statue when performing. Tonight is a different Stefano. It’s up-tempo and pitchy vocals were all over the place but hey, this is all about having fun right? Not about singing but getting the audience attention is what matters the most. I am pretty sure that all the teenage girls and cougars at home were dancing on this song too. Does that locked Stefano on the Top 6 next week?? I don’t know, find out tomorrow night…

The last to perform on that very stage is the 16 year old, Lauren Alaina. Singing a song by Sara Evans – “Born to Fly”. Well, that’s a Country song that I am not familiar at all. I think it’s good singing and Lauren Alaina can really sing since day one. It’s good but since I am not a music guru to know all the songs performed in here, I’ll consider this to be completely boring! If you’re looking for some good vocals, then this is it but I’d rather watch Stefano’s performance than this. That guy should be the last one to perform and rock it! LOL!
